Milestones & recognition

• Founded in 1862 by Britton Bath Osler, the firm took its current name, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, by 1916, after a period practising as McCarthy, Osler, Hoskin and Creelman.
• In 1968, Osler became the first large Canadian corporate law firm to make a woman a partner. That lawyer later became the first woman appointed to Canada's Supreme Court.
• Osler is one of a small group of long established Toronto business law firms historically referred to as the Seven Sisters.
• In the Chambers Canada 2026 guide, 50 of the firm's practices are ranked, including 46 lawyers recognized at Band 1, Chambers' highest ranking tier.

• Since 2009, the Toronto office has supported WoodGreen Homeward Bound, a four year program that helps single mothers with affordable housing, on site daycare, education, and job training.
• The Toronto office has partnered with the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership since 2018, connecting recent immigrants with professional mentors.
• Each December, the Toronto office collects for the Daily Bread Food Bank. It raised more than $5,300 in 2024.
• Osler's Canadian offices have raised more than $22 million for the United Way/Centraide network over the past 18 years, including more than $1.3 million in 2024.
• The firm's annual Give a Day to World AIDS campaign has raised more than $2.2 million for the Stephen Lewis Foundation since 2006, including over $119,632 in 2024.
• Osler's offices have taken part in the Terry Fox Run since 1987, raising more than $688,000 for cancer research, including $41,300 in 2024.
