About Barry
Barry Fong practises intellectual property law with a focus on copyright, trademarks, domain names, and anti-counterfeiting enforcement. He acts for rights holders and users in litigation, administrative proceedings, and commercial matters involving copyright issues, including the educational use of protected works and the use of music for public performances. Barry Fong is also a registered trademark agent who advises clients on trademark clearance, prosecution, opposition, acquisition, licensing, and litigation, representing brand owners across industries such as fashion, hospitality, media, and pharmaceuticals. He has appeared before the Copyright Board of Canada, the Trademarks Opposition Board, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Earlier in his career, he was seconded as Associate Counsel to Re:Sound, a Canadian collective society representing artists and record companies. He also serves on Osler's Diversity Committee and is active in supporting the visual arts in his community.
