Lenczner Slaght is a Toronto law firm that works only on litigation, arbitration and appeals, not general corporate practice. Alan Lenczner, Ronald Slaght, Michael Royce, Glenn Smith and Peter Griffin left McCarthy Tetrault to start the firm together in 1992, first under the name Lenczner Slaght Royce Smith Griffin. At the time, five partners leaving one of Canada's largest firms to build a litigation only practice was considered unusual in the profession. It's known today simply as Lenczner Slaght and is based at 130 Adelaide Street West in Toronto's financial district.
The firm's lawyers argue cases at every level of court and in arbitrations across the country, working on commercial litigation, class actions, intellectual property, securities, insurance, employment, construction, insolvency, competition and defamation matters. Its lawyers include a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, who sat on the country's highest court for nearly 14 years before retiring in 2011 and now serves as of counsel to the firm, and a former judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the longest serving judge in that court's history, who heard more than 6,000 appeals over 33 years before joining the firm as counsel in 2024. Lenczner Slaght has won Canadian Law Awards' Litigation & Dispute Resolution Boutique Law Firm of the Year seven years running, and has been recognized in the Lexpert Bull's Eye for a quarter century, ranking first in Toronto for litigation and commercial litigation in the 2026 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.

By appointmentLenczner Slaght's office is in Oxford Tower at 130 Adelaide Street West, part of the Richmond Adelaide Centre complex in Toronto's financial district. The complex connects into the city's underground PATH network, linking it to much of the downtown core. It's a fitting address for a litigation firm whose lawyers handle commercial litigation, securities, insolvency and other matters for corporate and institutional clients: the surrounding blocks are home to the head offices of several of Canada's biggest banks, along with the insurance companies and stockbrokers that work in the same industries as many of the firm's clients.
