About Monique
Monique Jilesen is Managing Partner at Lenczner Slaght, where her practice centres on class actions, contract and shareholder disputes, civil fraud, injunctions, professional liability, insolvency, and securities and derivatives matters. She was counsel to the Ukrainian World Congress in a judicial review of Canada's decision on turbine deliveries to a sanctioned Russian company, secured a Mareva order freezing assets and cryptocurrency tied to Freedom Convoy leaders, and represented Douglas Cardinal in an injunction over a baseball team's name and logo. She received The Advocates' Society's Douglas K. Laidlaw Award for Excellence in Advocacy and was named Litigator of the Year at the 2023 Canadian Law Awards, and one of Toronto Life's Top 50 Most Influential. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and co-leads the firm's Commercial Litigation group. Monique was called to the Ontario bar in 2000 after earning her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and her honours BA in political science from Queen's University. She also developed a resource website covering Ontario's Commercial List.
