About Derek
Derek Hooper is an associate at Lenczner Slaght who is developing a litigation practice touching commercial disputes, real estate and securities matters, injunctions, employment disputes, and professional liability. He co-chairs the firm's Pride Affinity Group and previously summered and articled at the firm. Derek completed his JD at Queen's University, where he worked as a student caseworker at the Prison Law Clinic, served as Vice President of Finance for the Law Students' Society, and was an associate editor of the Queen's Law Journal; he made the Dean's Honour List all three years of law school and won course prizes in Employment Law and Legal Skills. Before law school, Derek spent years in banking and securities, completing the Canadian Securities Course and earning licenses with the MFDA and IIROC while working as a financial advisor managing a book of high-net-worth clients.
