Davies Howe LLP is a Toronto law firm that's focused on three areas: land use planning and development, expropriation, and litigation and mediation. The firm has served clients since 1995, and its lawyers regularly appear before the Ontario Land Tribunal, municipal councils, and the courts on behalf of developers, planners, architects, and property and business owners across the province of Ontario. The firm's land development team has been consistently ranked among the top three land development law firms in both the City of Toronto and GTA editions of Novae Res Urbis, an industry publication that tracks municipal planning news.
The firm's expropriation group has represented property and business owners in compensation disputes with expropriating authorities for more than two decades. Davies Howe operates from the 10th floor of an office building on Adelaide Street West in downtown Toronto, where a team of 17 lawyers, a land use planner, and support staff work across the firm's three practice groups. One of the firm's partners spent ten years in an independent land use planning practice and served as in-house counsel to the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing before joining Davies Howe.
Wheelchair accessibleDavies Howe's office sits on the 10th floor of a building at 425 Adelaide Street West, completed in 1989, in the part of downtown Toronto known as Wellington Place. The neighbourhood dates back to land set aside as part of York's military reserve after the town's founding in 1793, and its distinctive layout, two public squares linked by a wide boulevard called Wellington Place, was set out in 1837. By the early 1900s the area's houses had been replaced by paper box and lithography factories.
Wellington Place is now going through another round of change, as old factories and surface parking lots give way to new apartment and condominium buildings, the same kind of official plan amendments, site plan approvals, and rezonings that make up much of Davies Howe's land development practice.
