Ava Kanner is a co-managing partner at Davies Howe LLP who runs the firm's expropriation practice while continuing to take on select commercial litigation matters. Her insurance law background rounds out her experience appearing before courts and tribunals for over three decades, negotiating settlements from small disputes to those worth tens of millions of dollars. She served as president of the Ontario Expropriations Association and previously taught civil litigation at the Law Society of Ontario for nine years. Called to the Ontario Bar in June 1986 after practising in Quebec, she was permitted to earn her Common Law degree from Osgoode Hall in a single year on account of her Civil Law training. She frequently speaks at and helps organize legal conferences on expropriation and insurance topics.
