Virtual appointmentsChaitons LLP is a multi-practice business law firm based in Toronto, with its office on the 10th floor of a highrise tower at 5000 Yonge Street in North York. The firm traces back to Chaiton and Chaiton, a two lawyer practice, and marked its 40th anniversary as Chaitons LLP in 2023. It's organized around six practice groups: banking and financial services, commercial real estate, corporate law, insolvency and restructuring, litigation, and mortgage enforcement. Clients include Canadian and foreign banks, asset based lenders, private equity firms, and real estate developers, and the firm is also retained as independent counsel to court appointed monitors, receivers, liquidators, and bankruptcy trustees.
The insolvency and restructuring group has argued before the Supreme Court of Canada more than once, including a 2024 decision that let a bankruptcy trustee recover Ponzi scheme payments for creditors, and a 2013 ruling on pension deemed trusts in insolvency proceedings. Its mortgage enforcement group acts for financial institutions and lenders on both single properties and larger portfolios, and tracks enforcement files using software the firm built in-house. Chaitons also holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification, an information security standard covering how the firm handles client data, first earned in March 2020 and renewed since.

Virtual appointmentsThe office sits on the west side of Yonge Street, on the 10th floor of a highrise tower about a two minute walk from the North York Centre subway station on the Yonge line, with underground parking in the building. That puts the firm inside North York Centre, which the City of Toronto's own planning materials describe as the largest office-based employment hub in the city outside of downtown, with nearly 35,000 people working in its cluster of office and condo towers.
It's a fitting setting for a firm whose client list leans on banks, asset based lenders, and real estate developers: a dense, transit connected business district rather than a courthouse row or a small town main street.
