About George
George Benchetrit is a partner whose practice focuses on restructuring, insolvency, and commercial litigation, drawing on more than 30 years of experience with complex, high-pressure disputes. He represents lenders, bondholders, indenture trustees, court-appointed officers, and investors across sectors ranging from retail and construction to mining, oil and gas, and cryptocurrencies. His work regularly involves proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, and he has argued before every level of court in Ontario as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. He also serves as independent counsel to court-appointed monitors, receivers, and trustees, and was appointed representative counsel for retail investors in a major syndicated mortgage proceeding. George holds an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a B.A. in Economics from McGill University, and he is a former president of the Ontario Bar Association's Insolvency Section.
