About PIA Law (Personal Injury Alliance)

PIA Law, short for the Personal Injury Alliance, is not one law firm. It is a marketing alliance formed in 2012 by three separately owned Ontario personal injury firms: Thomson Rogers, McLeish Orlando, and Oatley Vigmond. Canadian Lawyer magazine describes it as believed to be the first alliance of its kind in Canada, formed because the three firms shared a concern that seriously injured people were choosing lawyers based on advertising rather than on merit. Thomson Rogers has practiced in Toronto since 1935. McLeish Orlando is also based in Toronto, on Yonge Street. Oatley Vigmond operates from Barrie along with offices in Toronto, Hamilton, Sudbury, and North Bay.

Together the three firms take on catastrophic and life-changing injury claims across Ontario, including motor vehicle, motorcycle, and other transportation accidents, medical malpractice, brain and spinal cord injuries, wrongful death, and class actions, on a contingency-fee basis with a free initial consultation. Lawyers across the three firms have been recognized by LEXPERT and Best Lawyers, and eleven are Certified Specialists in Civil Litigation. Each of the three firms has had at least one partner serve as a past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association. Rather than compete against each other for advertising attention, the firms pool that effort under one shared name while continuing to operate, and bill, independently.

The neighbourhood

PIA Law is not tied to a single office. Two of the three member firms are based in downtown Toronto: Thomson Rogers on Bay Street and McLeish Orlando on Yonge Street, a few blocks apart. Oatley Vigmond, the third member firm, is based in Barrie and also has offices in Toronto, Hamilton, Sudbury, and North Bay. Between the three firms, PIA Law fields calls and meets clients in cities across Ontario, from Kingston and Ottawa to Kitchener, London, Windsor, and Thunder Bay, rather than serving one neighbourhood the way a single local firm would.

Frequently asked questions

Is PIA Law one law firm or several?
PIA Law is an alliance, not a single firm. It brings together three separately owned and operated Ontario firms, Thomson Rogers, McLeish Orlando, and Oatley Vigmond, under one shared name for personal injury cases.
What kinds of injury cases does PIA Law handle?
The three member firms concentrate on catastrophic and life-changing injuries: motor vehicle, motorcycle, and other transportation accidents, medical malpractice, brain and spinal cord injuries, wrongful death, and product liability, among others.
Do I have to pay anything before PIA Law takes my case?
PIA Law offers a free initial consultation, and the member firms take personal injury cases on a contingency-fee basis, so clients don't pay legal fees unless the case succeeds.
Where are PIA Law's offices?
Between the three member firms, PIA Law has offices in Toronto, Barrie, Hamilton, Sudbury, and North Bay, and takes calls from clients in other Ontario cities including Ottawa, Kingston, London, and Windsor.
Can PIA Law help with a class action?
Yes. Class actions are among the practice areas listed across the PIA Law member firms, alongside individual catastrophic injury claims.
How do I start a case with PIA Law?
Prospective clients can call PIA Law's intake line or fill out the contact form on pialaw.ca to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation about a case.
