About James

James (Jim) Vigmond is the founding and managing partner of Oatley Vigmond. Raised in Brantford, he attended Queen's University's Faculty of Law, where he became drawn to personal injury litigation, and was called to the bar in 1983 before partnering with Roger Oatley to establish the firm. His practice today concentrates on spinal cord injury, brain injury, and serious orthopaedic cases, and he set a precedent for the highest damages award for a spinal cord injury in Morrison v. Greig, which resulted in a $12.5 million award. He has published widely, including contributions to The Oatley-McLeish Guide to Personal Injury Practice in Motor Vehicle Cases, and returned to Queen's Law as an adjunct professor to create the school's first Personal Injury Advocacy course. He is a past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Simcoe County Law Association, and a Fellow of both the Litigation Counsel of America and the American College of Trial Lawyers.
