Renée Vinett, a managing partner, has been a registered nurse since 1985 and has worked only as a personal injury lawyer for the past 24 years. A class action it brought against a Toronto plastic surgeon styled "Dr.6ix" was certified after a hard-fought hearing, and with two other firms it has filed a proposed class action for young gymnasts alleging abuse in programs and events run by Gymnastics Canada.
The firm's mass tort files include a lawsuit against Bayer Inc. for more than 100 women who had severe reactions to Essure contraceptive devices, and a case for over 2,000 Canadian veterans who suffered life-altering side effects from the antimalarial drug mefloquine. It also represents Canadian diplomats, and their families, who developed Havana Syndrome after being attacked while serving in Cuba.
This group's focus areas include gun safety cases, which test whether people other than the shooter can be made to answer in court for injuries caused by trafficked guns. It also acts for survivors of sexual abuse inside institutions such as schools, hospitals, sports organizations and religious bodies, and it assesses these claims using government data, specialist analysis, and medical and institutional records.
HSH represents hundreds of families whose relatives died from nursing home negligence before the pandemic, as well as people harmed by COVID-19 outbreaks in long-term care homes.
