Founder Al Pace earned a law degree from the University of Windsor and a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Toronto, was called to the Ontario bar in 1980, and founded the firm in 1981 with three employees. The firm grew steadily through the 1980s and 1990s, opened additional offices through the 2000s and 2010s, and now describes itself as staffed by 160+ legal professionals across its Ontario locations.

The firm's other offices reach well beyond the GTA. Its Kenora office is in a city on the shore of Lake of the Woods in northwestern Ontario, close to the Manitoba boundary and far from its Toronto base. Its Collingwood office sits on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Georgian Bay, in Simcoe County. Markham and London round out a footprint that spans much of southern and central Ontario rather than a single neighbourhood.
