Gelman & Associates is a family law firm based in Toronto, with its head office on Yonge Street in North York and a set of smaller offices spread around southern Ontario, including one in Cambridge. Lisa Gelman started the firm in 2001, after being called to the Ontario bar and taking up family law in 1995. The practice doesn't spread itself across different fields. Its lawyers stay with family matters: divorce and separation, parenting and support arrangements, division of property, domestic contracts, adoption, and child protection, plus mediation and collaborative family law for couples who'd rather settle than go to court.
Most of the firm's locations, Cambridge among them, are appointment-only satellites staffed on certain days, with the main team working out of Toronto. First consultations are free, and the firm meets clients online, by phone, and in person, with phone lines open weekdays from 8 AM to 8 PM. The team speaks several languages. Founder Lisa Gelman writes a regular family law column, 'Ask Gelman,' for the Toronto Star.

Staff are there only on certain days, so meetings are booked ahead instead of dropped in on. From that address the firm takes family law work from across Waterloo Region, naming Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph as the communities it serves locally. The day-to-day centre of the practice stays at the Toronto head office, and clients near Cambridge can meet by phone or video when an in-person visit isn't convenient.
