Unions and their members

On the labour side, Unified represents unions and workers in labour arbitration, before tribunals and professional regulators, and in court. While articling in the labour division, one of its lawyers worked on regulatory files for teachers and early childhood educators, before tribunals and at the Divisional Court.

Employee-side employment disputes

Gil Fischler's practice is devoted entirely to helping employees with employment law disputes, and across the province Unified acts for employees, executives and regulated professionals. Christopher Kim's files include unpaid incentive pay under short and long-term plans, stock options and restricted stock units among them.

Employment and privacy class actions

Unified represents only plaintiffs in class actions, and only in employment-related and privacy cases. For most plaintiffs in those cases, the firm's representation costs nothing.

Disability insurance

Christopher Kim, a partner, focuses on employment law and disability insurance law. The firm's Toronto employment team regularly helps clients facing PTSD-related problems at work and with long-term disability claims.

Family law, including collaborative work

Kimberley Wilton, a family partner, is a certified collaborative family law lawyer and a trained family mediator. For high net worth separations, the firm brings in forensic accountants, business valuators and actuaries when a file needs them.

Planning, development and expropriation

Michael Paiva works with land use planners and other professionals on development approvals such as official plan and zoning by-law amendments, minor variances, site plans and building permits. The property and commerce team has handled full and partial land takings and both permanent and temporary easements, acting for homeowners, commercial landowners and tenants.

Tiebacks, crane swings and construction disputes

Paiva's practice includes tieback and crane swing agreements, construction law and commercial leases, and the firm can refer clients to outside professionals such as geostructural engineers. Paiva has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Superior Court, the Court of Appeal and the Ontario Dispute Adjudication for Construction Contracts (ODACC).
