About Jose Bento Rodrigues

Family disputes that may end up in court are the centre of José Bento Rodrigues's work. As managing partner of Unified LLP, Rodrigues also leads its Family law group, concentrating on family law litigation and meeting clients out of both the Toronto and Waterloo Region offices.

Going to trial isn't where Rodrigues wants a case to begin. It's treated as the last resort, and in Rodrigues's view most people do better when they resolve things on friendly terms, since a court fight drags on and costs a lot. So the energy goes first into practical, creative solutions shaped around each client.

Rodrigues's career started at Justice Canada, with articles at the Department of Justice. Before Unified came together, Rodrigues was a partner at Rodrigues Paiva LLP. Law school at the University of Ottawa brought a turn as Editor-in-Chief of the Ottawa Law Review, along with internships at the Tax Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Justice and the United Nations in New York City.

Outside work, meditation is a favourite pastime, and Rodrigues is the proud owner of Saki, an Akita.
