About Shibley Righton LLP

Shibley Righton LLP is a mid-sized Ontario law firm that has practiced under its current name since 1964. Its head office sits at 250 University Avenue in downtown Toronto, in a building the firm describes as the old Bank of Canada building. The firm also keeps offices in Windsor and in the Hamilton area, in Burlington, and its team includes more than 30 lawyers and staff working across a dozen or more areas of practice.

Condominium law is one of the firm's core practices. Its condominium group advises boards, property managers, and developers on governance, by-laws, liens, insurance, and disputes, and the firm says it has recovered more than 55 million dollars for condominium corporations over the years. Beyond that work, Shibley Righton handles business and corporate law, construction, real estate, wills and estates, employment, insurance, and civil litigation, and it's an active member of Lexwork International, a network of independent law firms.

The neighbourhood

Shibley Righton's head office is at 250 University Avenue in downtown Toronto, in what the firm calls the old Bank of Canada building. The building went up in the late 1950s as the Bank of Canada's regional office for the city, complete with vaults built to hold gold and cash for banks across the Toronto area. A few blocks north, the Toronto Courthouse at 361 University Avenue hears Superior Court family and criminal matters.

Away from Toronto, the firm keeps what it calls a well established office on Ouellette Avenue in Windsor, and a smaller office on North Service Road in Burlington that serves clients in the Hamilton area. Both function as satellite locations of the Toronto head office rather than separate historical practices.
