Mark Radulescu acts for franchisors, from setting up a franchise system and drafting disclosure documents and agreements to enforcing franchise rights, and Gurminder Singh's corporate work includes medical professionals and other professional corporations.

Title searches, private financing and family transfers

On a purchase, the firm runs a preliminary title search as soon as the agreement of purchase and sale arrives. It deals with secondary financing such as vendor take-back and private mortgages, and handles transfers of title between spouses and relatives, including the paperwork, registration and tax advice. Martin Mahlstedt handles complex commercial real estate deals, commercial financing, leasing and the oversight of land development.

Construction liens for suppliers

GGFI acts for people and companies that supply materials or services to property owners. If a supplier isn't paid, the firm prepares the notices and registrations that go on the owner's title and then takes the matter through court to collect what's owed.

Wills and estate trustee support

Every will at GGFI is drafted after a detailed conversation with the client and shaped to that client's circumstances. For estate trustees, the firm can prepare and file the Certificate of Appointment application to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and how much it takes on depends on the help the trustee wants.

Separation, collaborative law and court

Whether it's a simple divorce or a complex support and property dispute, the family team commits to offering a range of options and working in a timely, cost-effective way. Its lawyers have advanced training in Collaborative Family Law and have acted at all levels of court in Ontario. Joseph Irvine practises family law only and has wide experience with collaborative law, mediation and mediation-arbitration, processes that can help keep costs down and preserve a degree of civility.

Step-parent and relative adoptions

Adoption is one of GGFI's own practice areas. Karin Maiterth handles step-parent and relative adoptions, and the firm processes step-parent adoptions anywhere in Ontario.

Charity and not-for-profit law

GGFI works with churches, charities and not-for-profits on incorporation, changes to their structure, charitable registration and partnerships with other groups in Canada and abroad. Nigel Haykin's practice focuses in particular on charity and not-for-profit law at the federal and provincial levels, and Warren Griffin has worked with charitable organizations from their formation onward.

Litigation department

Mark Radulescu's litigation covers employment matters for both employers and employees, estate disputes, defamation and franchise litigation, among other areas. In May 2022 the Waterloo Region Record featured Radulescu after a judge awarded damages to a client who'd been defamed online. Jennifer Mohomed-Indarsingh brings experience in estate and power of attorney litigation, employment and contract disputes, and negligence.

Immigration and refugee department

GGFI launched a full-service immigration and refugee law department in April 2024, with clients ranging from individuals and families to small businesses and large corporations. For employers, it helps bring in temporary foreign workers when labour is short, move staff temporarily to a Canadian branch, and get the authorizations needed to start a new business venture.
