Manuela Jimenez Bueno handles civil litigation, wills and powers of attorney, and immigration and refugee files as an associate with GGFI Law LLP in Kitchener. Clients who'd rather talk through their situation in Spanish can do so with Manuela, who speaks it fluently alongside English.

GGFI wasn't new territory when Manuela became an associate there in 2024. While still in law school, Manuela had already put in time with the team in three different student roles: summer, placement and articling. Law school itself was at Lincoln Alexander School of Law, following a BA and then an MA from the University of Waterloo.

Refugee and immigration work runs right through that training. Manuela led the Latin American Law Students' Association as its president, took part in the Refugee Law Clinic and competed in the inaugural Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Law Moot. A placement at Justice for Children and Youth, under its Childhood Arrivals Support and Advocacy (CASA) Program, meant helping young people whose immigration status was precarious or missing altogether, and Manuela was also involved with Pro Bono Students Canada. In August 2021, as a law student, Manuela co-wrote a Policy Options piece with Warda Shazadi Meighen and David R. Boyd urging Canada to plan its immigration policy around climate-driven mass displacement.

Born in Colombia, Manuela grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo and is proud of those Latin American roots. Away from the office, you'll find Manuela out on a bike, trying KW's shops and restaurants, or with family and friends.
