About Robert B. Bayne

Rob Bayne acts for employers across the whole range of labour and employment law, and has been a partner at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti in Toronto since 1996. Private sector clients come from retail, hospitality and manufacturing, as well as logistics and the sports and entertainment business. Complex class action litigation is part of Rob's experience as well.

Law wasn't Rob's first career. Before practising, Rob spent time in human resources and production management at a manufacturer in Ontario and that experience still informs the advice clients get today. Dalhousie University awarded Rob both a commerce degree and a law degree, and the call to the Ontario bar followed in 1991.

The work reaches well past Canada. Rob is one of seven directors of L&E Global, an alliance of more than 1,750 lawyers in over 170 offices worldwide who support employers on workplace law, and leads Filion's tie to Advocates for Employers of Canada, a national network of labour and employment specialists. On the policy side, Rob has represented a number of clients pressing governments in Canada and the United States for changes to the law.

Teaching runs through the practice too. Executive groups often bring Rob in for training, and the University of Toronto and Ryerson University have both had Rob lecture on labour and employment law. Rob also speaks regularly to employer groups, HR professionals and students. In February 2026 Rob was one of two speakers on an L&E Global webinar about what employers in Canada and the US could expect that year.
