John McFarlane joined Tierney Stauffer LLP's Ottawa counsel group in early 2026, bringing more than 49 years of business law experience as a partner and counsel at international, regional, and local firms. He has worked on numerous complex mergers, acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations, and has served for the past 30 years as external Canadian general counsel to a global healthcare company. His clients have included domestic and global corporations, business owners, and regulated professionals such as lawyers, judges, physicians, architects, and pharmacists. John also practices estates, trusts, and wills law, including succession and estate planning, and holds the Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is the founder of the McFarlane Family Fund for Alzheimer's Disease. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and a Juris Doctor, both from Queen's University, and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the County of Carleton Law Association, the Law Society of Ontario, and the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners.
