About Virginie Gauthier

Virginie Gauthier is a partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office whose work centres on insolvency and restructuring, with banking, corporate and commercial law woven through it. Clients have included debtors, court officers, potential purchasers, financial institutions and bondholder committees. CCAA proceedings from different seats

Gauthier has acted for Myra Falls Mine Ltd. in its own CCAA proceedings and for the Court-appointed Monitor, FTI Consulting Inc., in the CCAA case of Sears Canada Inc. and its affiliates. In the Laurentian University proceedings, the client was Lakehead University.

Lenders, secured creditors and buyers

In the Aleafia Health CCAA proceedings, Gauthier acted for Red, White & Bloom Inc., which came in as DIP lender, stalking horse purchaser and first-ranking secured creditor. Otéra Capital, a first-ranking secured creditor, was another client, in the receivership of 33 Yorkville Inc.

Cross-border insolvency and liquidations

Pacific Exploration and Production (now Frontera Energy) had Gauthier as counsel in its cross-border insolvency proceedings. Gauthier also acted for the Court-appointed liquidator of Ontario Electronics Stewardship.
