About Steven

Steven Barrett has spent more than three decades representing trade unions and their members in grievance and interest arbitration, labour relations board applications, and collective bargaining negotiations. At the Ontario Labour Relations Board, he has handled everything from illegal strike applications to complex unfair labour practice complaints, and he also advises unions, professional associations, and central labour bodies on legislative and policy matters. Steven is widely known for his work advancing the freedom of association guarantee under section 2(d) of the Charter, having represented intervenors in Supreme Court of Canada appeals and successfully challenged legislation such as Bill 124 before the Ontario Superior Court. His class action practice has included representing bank employees seeking overtime pay and retirees whose benefits were reduced. Steven serves as the firm's co-managing partner and sits on the editorial board of the Global Labour Rights Reporter.
