About Andrea

Andrea Sobko advocates for fairness, equity, and human rights in the workplace, believing unions play a key role in strengthening workers' economic security. Her practice covers labour law, pay equity, human rights, and employment law, and she represents trade unions on matters including workplace accommodation, job classification, and discipline. She approaches negotiations and grievance litigation with attention to detail and a trauma-informed perspective, recognizing that many clients bring past experiences that shape how they engage with the legal system. As a pay equity lawyer, she has advised and represented nurses, midwives, personal support workers, social workers, and other care-economy workers, helping negotiate pay equity plans and litigate cases under provincial and federal law. She has also worked as a legal researcher on international human rights and international criminal law projects, and she serves on the board of Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights while volunteering with the International Lawyers Assisting Workers Network on gender justice issues. Before law school, Andrea spent nearly a decade with the Ontario Justice Education Network building justice education programs for educators across the province. A first-generation lawyer raised in a single-parent household in rural Ontario, she completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School along with a Bachelor of Education and an Honours BA in sociology and psychology from the University of Toronto.
