About Amanda

Amanda Bruce is a Métis lawyer at Goldblatt Partners' Ottawa office who focuses on advancing Indigenous rights and self-determination through both Canadian and Indigenous law. She draws on earlier experience in parliamentary advocacy and intergovernmental relations to develop strategies for her clients. Amanda earned her law degree from the University of Ottawa and is completing an LL.M. there, with a thesis on how the division of powers has produced unequal education and health care for First Nations on-reserve. She graduated at the top of her class from Toronto Metropolitan University with an Honours B.A. in public administration and governance. She is co-authoring a book chapter reframing the Supreme Court's R. v. Sharma decision from a feminist Indigenous perspective, and researches missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, overincarceration, Gladue and section 35 rights. Before joining the firm she clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario and worked in Indigenous advocacy for First Nations organizations.
