About Peter
Peter Viitre leads the Corporate and Commercial Group at Sotos LLP, where he works extensively with franchise businesses across many industry sectors. He oversees merger and acquisition transactions, particularly the purchase and sale of franchise systems, including deals with a cross-border component. His advice spans the full franchise lifecycle, from drafting legal documents and regulatory compliance to managing the franchisor-franchisee relationship and handling disputes or terminations. He also advises business owners and investors, including private equity firms, on purchase and sale transactions outside the franchise context. Over more than 25 years in practice, Peter has represented clients in the food and beverage, property services, shipping, gasoline, and financial advisory sectors. He previously chaired the Ontario Bar Association's Franchise Law Section and served on the Ontario government's Business Law Advisory Council. Peter earned his LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1993 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1995, and he speaks German.
