About Nicholas
Nick Smith is a founding principal of Legacy Tax + Trust Lawyers. For over 35 years his practice has focused on federal, provincial and international tax and estate planning, with an emphasis on owner-manager corporate reorganizations, tax structuring of business purchases and sales, business succession, and trusts, estates and tax-planned wills. He has extensive experience representing individuals, corporations and trusts in tax disputes with the CRA and the Province of BC, and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1989. He was an Adjunct Professor at UBC's Peter A. Allard School of Law teaching Taxation of Trusts and Estates until his retirement from teaching in 2017, and has been qualified as an expert in Canadian taxation by the BC Supreme Court and the US Tax Court. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from McGill University with Great Distinction and his law degree from the University of British Columbia.
