Murray Browne specializes in Aboriginal law with nearly 20 years of experience, with practice areas including Aboriginal and treaty rights, land code, First Nation constitutions, laws and policy, treaty negotiation and implementation, and governance support. He was the first lawyer to work with a First Nation to use copyright law to protect petroglyph images, was part of the team that won a declaration of Aboriginal title for the Tsilhqot'in Nation, and helped a coastal First Nation negotiate, complete, and implement a modern-day treaty and develop over 30 new laws. He developed the first First Nation Property Transfer Tax law in Canada and has assisted over 25 First Nations with Land Code implementation and development. He has been a member of the Law Society of British Columbia since 1994 and is a member and former treasurer of the Aboriginal Law Subsection, Vancouver Island, of the Canadian Bar Association (BC). Outside of work, he plays piano, coaches hockey and basketball, and has teenaged children.
