About Matthew

Matthew Holmberg is counsel in Cunningham Swan's litigation group. He earned his LL.B. from Queen's University in 1997 after a criminology degree from the University of Ottawa. This is his second tenure with the firm, having been an associate from 2002 to 2007; in between he practised law in his hometown of Pembroke and later served as Senior Litigation Counsel for Empire Life Insurance Company, handling litigation nationwide. He also had a distinguished career as head coach of the Queen's Women's Varsity Hockey team from 2009 to 2023, leading the team to two OUA championships and being named OUA Coach of the Year three times.
