About Mary

Mary Jane Binks, K.C. is Senior Group Counsel in Tierney Stauffer LLP's Family Law Group and also practices estate litigation. She is a former partner at Augustine Bater Binks LLP and at the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG, and previously served as an Assistant Crown Attorney and Vice-Chairman of the Commercial Registration Appeal Tribunal of Ontario. She advocates before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal and also serves as a family law arbitrator. Mary Jane has taught family law for the Law Society of Ontario and as a sessional lecturer at Carleton University, and is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education conferences. She holds a law degree from Queen's University and a bachelor's degree from Carleton University, was called to the Ontario bar, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1982. She was the Advocates' Society of Ontario's 2016 Ottawa Honouree, the first Ontario family law lawyer to receive the distinction, and received the Carleton Medal from the County of Carleton Law Association in 2018. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada since 2006 for her family law work.
