About Lucas Mapplebeck

Lucas Mapplebeck acts for employers. A partner in the Hamilton office of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP, Lucas covers labour and employment law as a whole, with the most attention going to three areas: labour relations, employment litigation and keeping organizations compliant with privacy law. Unionized and non-union workplaces both rely on Lucas, in the public sector as well as the private one.

A lot of the work happens across a bargaining table or in a hearing room. Lucas negotiates collective agreements on clients' behalf, takes on interest arbitrations, and argues matters in court, before arbitration boards and at the Ontario Labour Relations Board, along with other administrative tribunals. Construction companies, manufacturers, technology businesses, healthcare organizations and education employers are among the clients. Lucas has also spent time in front of a class, as a middle school teacher and as a college instructor, and that background feeds a real interest in education law.

Lucas joined the Ontario bar in 2018 and was an associate with the firm in Hamilton when Bill 66 was before the legislature. Speaking to Law Times in January 2019, Lucas called the bill's changes to overtime and averaging agreements very relevant for employers. HR Reporter's coverage that same month carried Lucas's point that small business owners can hesitate to deal with government over employment standards questions.

Lucas has written firm insights on Bill 66, the Working for Workers Six Act, workplace privacy and an arbitration decision on a hospital's vaccination policy. Lucas has also presented firm webinars on cyber risk, data breaches and the year's employment law developments, the latest in December 2025. The 2026 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada named Lucas one of its Ones to Watch for labour and employment law in Hamilton.
