About Josh
Josh Boutin's primary area of practice is Aboriginal rights and title litigation, and he is deeply committed to using the law as a tool to empower Indigenous peoples and work toward reconciliation and decolonization. He represented the Quw'utsun Nation in securing recognition of title at Tl'uqtinus village lands and an Aboriginal right to fish, and represented the Cowichan Nation in achieving the same recognition in Cowichan Tribes et al v Canada (Attorney General), 2025 BCSC 1490. Born and raised in the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, in what is now Nanaimo, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Vancouver Island University and attended law school at the University of Ottawa, graduating cum laude in 2021 with the option in social justice law. During law school he worked closely with multiple First Nations communities and volunteered with the ID Project through the Ottawa Mission. He became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in 2022 and has practiced at Woodward & Company since then.
