John J. Cardill

About John

John Cardill was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1974 after graduating from the University of Windsor, and practices as a sole practitioner in association with Tierney Stauffer LLP out of its Ottawa office. His practice is restricted to civil litigation and family law, where he has appeared at every level of court including the Supreme Court of Canada, and he is recognized by peers for his in-depth knowledge of legal costs. He has instructed at the Bar Admission Course in civil litigation, debtor-creditor, and family law, delivered numerous papers on costs, and co-chaired the County of Carleton Law Association's Family Law Institute from 1991 to 1996. John was a principal participant in developing guidelines for legal costs across Eastern Ontario and co-developed the costs outline scheme that formed part of former Rule 57 and Form 57B of the Rules of Civil Procedure. He also helped introduce case management to family law proceedings in Ottawa and served on the Ad Hoc Committee for Ottawa's Family Law Pilot Project. He was awarded the Carleton Medal by the County of Carleton Law Association for his contributions to the profession. John holds a B.A. from St. Patrick's College at the University of Ottawa (1968) and an LL.B. from the University of Windsor (1972).
