Johann Du Plessis has spent more than a decade advising owner-managed businesses on business, tax, and commercial law, helping establish small businesses across multiple jurisdictions and handling cross-border transactions. He is licensed as a lawyer in Nova Scotia, Ontario, South Africa, and Namibia, and also serves as a Notary Public in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Namibia. Before immigrating to Canada in 2017, Johann was founder and managing partner of a law firm in Windhoek and served as elected vice-chairperson of the Law Society of Namibia's council, chairing its Guidelines Committee and Commercial Law Committee. He earned his B.Comm and LLB from the University of the Free State in South Africa and an LLM in tax law from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, writing his dissertation on international tax considerations for Canadian listed mining companies operating in developing countries. He is fluent in English and Afrikaans and conversant in German, Flemish, Dutch, and South Sotho. He was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2021, after earlier admissions in South Africa and Namibia (2007) and Ontario (2020).
