About James

James Knight has spent more than four decades representing management in labour and employment matters, appearing before courts, arbitration boards, tribunals and adjudicators on human rights, employment standards and workplace safety issues. He has deep experience with collective bargaining and guides employers through union organizing campaigns, serving clients in manufacturing, municipal government, health care, entertainment and finance. Best Lawyers named him Hamilton's Lawyer of the Year for Labour and Employment Law in 2019, 2021 and 2024, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. He served as the firm's Managing Partner from 2021 to 2024 and has written or co-written around twenty texts and guides for HR professionals, including works on employment litigation and workplace accommodation. For two decades he taught employment law to management and HR professionals at the University of Guelph. He earned his law degree from the University of Toronto and was called to the Ontario bar in 1985.
