About James
James Foord is a Principal Partner at Edelson Foord Law, previously a Partner at Foord & Crawford. He completed an Honours degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Toronto in 1992, obtained his Baccalaureate of Laws from Queen's University in 1996, and was called to the bar in 1998, after which his practice has been restricted to criminal law. He focuses on criminal trial and appellate advocacy and also represents individuals facing regulatory offences before disciplinary tribunals, having successfully defended clients charged with homicide, domestic violence, impaired driving, drug and firearm offences, white-collar fraud and youth offences at every level of court up to the Supreme Court of Canada. He teaches Trial Advocacy at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and regularly presents at continuing legal education programs. James is a past president of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa and a former trustee of the County of Carleton Law Association, was co-chair of the Ottawa Criminal Law Conference from 2009 to 2013, and has chaired its Impaired Driving Update panel since 2009. He received the Regional Senior Justice's Award in 2006 and is regularly asked to provide legal commentary to media outlets including the Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen and CBC.
