About Cassandra
Cassandra Richards is a criminal defence lawyer practising in Ontario, Quebec and Nunavut, representing youth and adult clients at all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada, and providing independent legal advice to complainants and witnesses. Before joining Bayne Sellar Ertel Macrae, she worked at a boutique Ottawa criminal law firm and taught a course on self-represented litigants at McGill University's Faculty of Law. She currently teaches Appellate Advocacy at the University of Ottawa Law Faculty and in the Department of Criminology at Carleton University. She co-chairs the Legislation Committee of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, is Vice-Chair of the youth empowerment organization YouTurn, and previously served four years as a director of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa. She holds Juris Doctor and Civil Law degrees from McGill University and an Honours degree in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from the University of Ottawa, and offers her services in both English and French.
