Donald Bayne is a partner at Bayne Sellar Ertel Macrae who has practised criminal law exclusively for more than 50 years and is recognized as one of Canada's pre-eminent defence lawyers. He has been designated a specialist in criminal litigation by the Law Society and has conducted trial and appellate advocacy at all levels of court in Canada, as well as at the Somalia, Arar and Iacobucci public inquiries. He has defended charges including murder, complex conspiracies, war crimes cases, and charges against corporations. He received the 2006 G. Arthur Martin Award, the 2016 Catzman Award for Professionalism and Civility, and the 2016 William Carroll Award for Case of the Year. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has lectured extensively for the Law Society, the Advocates Society, and university law faculties, including Queen's University. He holds an LL.B. from Queen's University, an LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and an M.B.A. and honorary LL.D. from Queen's University.
