About Emma

Emma Phillips practices labour law primarily in the university sector, handling everything from policy grievances and day-to-day arbitration to Charter litigation and collective agreement negotiations on behalf of faculty associations and their members. She also works as an independent workplace investigator, having served as counsel on the 2014/15 external review examining sexual misconduct and harassment in Canada's Armed Forces, on a 2015/16 UN-commissioned review of sexual abuse by peacekeepers in the Central African Republic, and on a 2016/17 external review of harassment within the RCMP. She joined the firm in 2006 after clerking for former Justice Marie Deschamps at the Supreme Court of Canada, having earned her law degree from the University of Toronto in 2005, where she also completed a Master's in Criminology, along with a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University. Emma is one of the firm's co-managing partners and teaches on implicit bias and equity issues, including as an Adjunct Professor in the University of Toronto's Global Professional Masters of Law.
