About Diane Laranja

Diane Laranja represents employers on labour and employment matters as a partner in the Toronto office of Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP. Grievance arbitration, construction labour relations, disability accommodation and occupational health and safety make up much of the work. Diane has also been appointed to interest arbitration panels, sitting as the employer's nominee.

Before law, Diane earned a commerce degree at Ryerson University with a major in management and a minor in human resources. A law degree from the University of Ottawa followed, and the call to the Ontario bar came in 2013. Diane was already an associate at Filion by 2016, and the firm made Diane a partner in May 2020.

Diane is often asked to speak at conferences and on panels. In a 2016 Canadian Lawyer piece on social media at work, Diane noted that what happens in employees' personal lives can now cross into the workplace more easily, and that a realistic, reasonable policy that still protects the employer is one of the most important tools available. In 2020, at the webinar that launched RESCON's Construction Against Racism Everywhere campaign, Diane explained to construction employers how the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act both require them to protect workers from racism.

Outside the office, Diane served as Vice President and a board member of the Canadian Association of Women in Construction and once sat on the board of the Ontario Electrical League. Diane is also active in Toronto's Portuguese community and proud to be part of it.
