About Chris

Chris Donovan is a Partner whose labour practice currently centers on helping university and college faculty negotiate collective agreements and enforcing those agreements through arbitration. He has represented unions and associations in grievances covering discipline, job competitions, benefits, layoffs and Human Rights Code claims, with particular interest in how features like collegial governance and academic freedom shape labour law in an academic setting. He also maintains a civil litigation and administrative law practice, sitting on LawPRO's list of preferred counsel after defending solicitors' negligence claims at trial and on summary judgment. He acts for individuals in wrongful dismissal, defamation and human rights matters, has represented the Law Society of Ontario in misconduct proceedings, and appears regularly before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario as well as on judicial review applications before the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal.
