About Brian

Brian Hurley is a partner at Liberty Law who focuses on the most serious criminal allegations, including homicide, major drug offences, sexual assault, and serious driving and domestic violence charges. Called to the Alberta bar in 1993, he has practised criminal defence exclusively for over three decades and has appeared at every level of court in Alberta, including the Court of Appeal. He has secured multiple verdicts of Not Criminally Responsible in murder and other serious cases. Hurley serves as Alberta's Executive Member for the Canadian Council of Criminal Defence Lawyers, is a past president of the Edmonton Criminal Trial Lawyers' Association, and has given expert testimony on criminal law reform to the Standing Senate Committee in Ottawa. He also lectures on criminal law at the University of Alberta and offers a free initial consultation to prospective clients.
