About Breanne

Breanne Martin is Anishinaabe and Métis, with ancestral lands on the North Shore of Lake Superior and Lake Nipigon and close family ties to the Red Rock Indian Band; she grew up in Thunder Bay and relocated to Victoria, BC in 2019. Her work centers on advancing section 35 rights and resolving longstanding colonial harms both in the courtroom and at the negotiation table, with practice areas including Aboriginal and treaty rights, Aboriginal title, Indigenous legal orders and law, specific claims, strategic reconciliation planning, and treaty negotiation and implementation. She represented the Quw'utsun Nation in its legal victory for recognition of title at Tl'uqtinus village lands and an Aboriginal right to fish. Before her call to the bar, she interned at the Specific Claims Tribunal and worked at the Senate of Canada as special assistant to an Indigenous Senator. She holds a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Ottawa with a specialization in Aboriginal law and Indigenous legal traditions, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, in global development studies from Queen's University, and was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2020, later adding the Northwest Territories (2024) and Ontario (2025).
