About Bell Baker LLP

Bell Baker LLP is a full service law firm based in downtown Ottawa. It was founded in 1957, and two of its founding partners, Dick Bell and Walter Baker, went on to serve as federal Members of Parliament. Bell later became Minister of Citizenship and Immigration under Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, and Baker became Minister of National Revenue under Prime Minister Joe Clark and introduced the first Access to Information Bill put before Parliament.

Today the firm's lawyers cover business and corporate law, real estate, wills and estate planning and administration, family law, civil litigation, employment and labour law, construction law, insurance litigation, municipal law and planning, and education law. Bell Baker has acted as counsel to school boards in the Eastern Ontario area for many years, a niche that runs alongside its broader civil and commercial work.

The firm's office is on Lisgar Street in downtown Ottawa, across the street from Ottawa City Hall. Bell Baker describes its client base as ranging from individuals to corporations, municipalities, school boards, and other institutions across the greater Eastern Ontario area.
