Criminal DefenceStephen Whitzman was called to the bar in 1978 and has tried nearly every category of criminal offence, appearing in courts at every level, from Provincial Offences Court up to the Supreme Court of Canada. From 2014 to 2024 he served as senior counsel at Daley, Byers, handling most of the firm's Superior Court trials, and at Hicks Adams his practice is now devoted almost exclusively to appeals. He has been counsel of record in 150 reported decisions, including a recent case before the Supreme Court of Canada. Stephen holds a B.A. from McGill University and an LL.B. and Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, and in 1990 the Law Society certified him as a Specialist in Criminal Litigation, a designation he renewed in 2019. He has chaired the Criminal Justice Section of the Canadian Bar Association's Ontario branch and taught advocacy at the Bar Admission Course.
