About Stephanie Doucet

Medical defence, health law, professional liability and municipal liability make up the litigation practice Stephanie Doucet runs as a partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office. Doucet's fluently bilingual and works with clients in English or French.

Before law school, Doucet studied history at the University of Ottawa (BA Hons., 2007) and then completed an MA in European Studies at Carleton University in 2010. A JD from the University of Western Ontario followed in 2013, and the Ontario call came in 2014. Since then, Doucet has argued at every level of Ontario's courts, the Court of Appeal included, and has acted as trial counsel in complex cases, from municipal liability claims to medical malpractice and personal injury suits. There's tribunal work too, appearing for clients at administrative and regulatory hearings. In 2026, Doucet was counsel for the City of Ottawa on a leave application that the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed with costs to the respondents.

Doucet appears in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2027 for Professional Malpractice Law, after earlier Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch listings in Insurance Law (2024 and 2025) and Personal Injury Litigation (2025). Teaching is a regular part of the work: Doucet has spoken to municipalities about the liability questions they run into and presented at the County of Carleton Law Association's annual litigation conference. From 2014 to 2019, Doucet also volunteered with Law Help Ontario, a Pro Bono Law Ontario program.
