About Shawn
Shawn L. Gerstel is a partner at Liberty Law who has practised exclusively in criminal and quasi-criminal defence since his admission to the Alberta bar in 2010. Originally from northern British Columbia, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Simon Fraser University in 2005 and his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 2009, joining Liberty Law as an articling student. Before becoming a defence lawyer, he worked as a summer articling student with the Crown Prosecutor's office in British Columbia, which gave him insight into how the Crown prepares cases for trial. Gerstel has represented clients in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories on charges ranging from impaired driving and theft to sexual assault, manslaughter, and murder. He has also represented clients before the Transportation Safety Board on traffic, regulatory, and bylaw matters.
