He has served as President of the Canadian Bar Association's Nova Scotia Branch and President of the Continuing Legal Education Society of Nova Scotia, and marked 50 years at the bar in 2026. He earned his LL.B. from Dalhousie University and an LL.M. from the University of London, and was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1974.
