Rasan Sahota is an associate at Gowling WLG in Toronto, where the work centres on energy as part of the firm's Nuclear & Energy Group. One matter on Sahota's record: acting as counsel to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador on the recommendations of an Independent Review Committee, set up to examine the 2024 Memorandum of Agreement between Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro and Hydro Quebec over hydropower generation on Labrador's Churchill River.

Ontario's electricity sector is another focus. In November 2025, Sahota and Thomas J. Timmins, who leads the firm's energy practice in Canada, published an article on what the province's municipally owned local distribution companies need to do now that electrification is reshaping the grid.

Sahota earned a JD at Queen's University in 2023 and was called to the Ontario bar the following year. Law school brought government and research experience: an internship with the Natural Resources Canada Legal Services Unit at the Department of Justice, plus time as a legal research analyst in the Conflicts Analytics Lab, a team studying how artificial intelligence is being developed for legal work. Sahota's also held the Harold G. Fox Scholarship with The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, which meant a year in London alongside barristers in several sets of chambers and marshalling at the UK Supreme Court and the Old Bailey.

Before law, Sahota studied at the University of Toronto, finishing an honours science degree in 2019 with majors in both biochemistry and political science. The summer before starting at Queen's, Sahota was one of a group of student researchers who looked at how COVID-19 affected young people in Ontario and made policy recommendations to the provincial government.
