Patrick M. Mc Ilhone helps clients buy, sell, finance and lease commercial property, and takes on general corporate and commercial work alongside it. A partner in Gowling WLG's Hamilton office, Mc Ilhone belongs to the firm's Commercial Real Estate and Lending groups. Much of the job is designing and papering how a deal will be owned, whether that's a joint venture, a co-ownership, a partnership or a shareholder arrangement.

Mc Ilhone earned a JD from Thompson Rivers University in 2015 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2016. Practice began as an associate at Chown Cairns LLP that year, followed by a move to Scarfone Hawkins LLP as an associate in 2017, before the current partnership at Gowling WLG.

Advice here is meant to be practical. Mc Ilhone makes a point of not over-lawyering a client's business needs, while still making sure clients understand the risks and consequences so they can decide with confidence. The Hamilton and Niagara roots go back a long way. Before law, Mc Ilhone worked in Niagara's greenhouses, in Hamilton's shipyards, and on the docks and tugboats of Hamilton Harbour. These days the local ties run through the profession as well: Mc Ilhone is a Trustee of the Hamilton Law Association, chairs its Corporate Commercial Subcommittee for 2026-2027, and often contributes to continuing professional education programs and presentations.
